The Sanskrit Department of

Dr. H.S. Gour University, Sagar was established in 1946 with the inception of the University.

The department has been recognized by University Grants Commission, New Delhi, for DRS under the SPECIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME (SAP). . .       More

The department was recognised for special assistance to develop it as a Centre of Excellence in ya-Śāstra and Sāhitya-Śāstra by Uccha Shiksha Aundan Ayog, M.P. Bhopal in 1985.

 The Department has rich library and its Manuscripts Centre has  6000 Manuscripts. More

Dept. publishes 2 research Journals & more than 60 national & international Journals are received.

FIELD OF SPECIALIZATION

The thrust areas in this Department are Sāhitya-Śāstra, Nātya-Śāstra, Modern Sanskrit
literature and Computational Linguistics. Nine Research Projects completed so far in this
Department are related to these areas of study.

RECENT ACTIVITIES (July 2007- September 2007)
Prof. Radhavallabh Tripathi was honoured with Narayan Shastri Kankar Samaman of Sanskrit Seva Samiti Jaipur. In the ceremony held at Jaipur on 10.7.2007, the Education Minister of Rajasrthan presented him the citation .
A Workshoip on Kavya Prakasha was orgainsied by Prof. Radhavallabh Tripathi from 13.7.2007 to 26.7.2007. Twenty Five participants, including teachers and research scholars of Sanskrit and Hindi departments and PG students, received intensive traning in Kavya Prakash of Mammata.
No. 56 of Natyam special no. on Bhavabhuti has been released.
Prof. Radhavallabh Tripathi and Prof. A. Dash were honoured with Vagartha Samman of Madhya Pradesh Sanskrit Board. The honour was given by the Governor of Madhya Pradesh on 30.8.2007 in a ceremony held at the auditorium of TTTI, Bhopal.
Prof. Radhavallabh Tripathi participated and presented a paper on impact of Sanskrit on technical terms in Thai language in the seminar organized by Kalidasa Sanskrit Akademi of Ujjain at Vidisha from 1st to 3rd September. 2007
