The Department has been recognized as a
Manuscript Resource Centre (MRC) sponsored by the
National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM), Ministry of
Culture and Tourism, Government of India,

instituted at the Indira
Gandhi National Centre for Arts. New Delhi. The aim and objective of the MRC is
to survey, document and catalogue the manuscripts in areas prescribed by the NMM,
and to convert information into electronic format and conduct awareness campaign
about the manuscript wealth of India.

MSS. Library Comprising about
4000 Manuscripts

A Local Advisory Committee for MRC was constituted under the
Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor.

Four Surveyors, one Computer Operator and one Curator for Mss Library and one
Account Assistant (part-time) are working in the centre. Record of more than
15000 manuscripts in the allocated area has been prepared.

The catch up area for the survey
work for our MRC is restricted to the districts of Bhind, Morena, Gwalior, Datia, Sheopur,
Shivpuri, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Damoha and Sagar, as well as Raipur and
Khairagarh in Chattisgarh. The centre is maintaining a MSS. Library Comprising
about 4000 Manuscripts. Catalogue of MSS. is in preparation.
